Single Parenting is for the Birds

Single Parenting is for the Birds and Blogging is for Venting

So I have decided that this whole single parenting gig is terribly hard! I knew it was not going to be a cake walk- despite the size of my hips!! but I definitely had no clue how emotionally taxing it was going to be. And a little FYI, if you are involuntarily signed up ie; husbands leaves you there is no sign up bonus or free candle! When the most consistent part of their father is his inconsistency, behavioral issues arise. This is the area I am having a difficult time with. Ty has been testing me to the point where I am positive he is a teenage boy trapped in a 4 yr old body! All day long he is questioning my authority and well... laughing at it. I totally suck at the whole good cop bad cop thing and the kids are fully aware that when I am worn out there is a very good possibility they will get what they want. So if any of you have the same teenager running around in a 4yr old body at your house and are full of use full advice, PLEASE send it my way!

Oh Chelsea - you certainly have your hands full. I can't even begin to understand what you are going through -- but, I can tell you that a good break (even for 1 hour when you go to the grocery store) does WONDERS for me. Try and find a babysitter that will do that once a week??? I don't know. I wish I could help you!!!

Um....you don't know me, but I saw your blog via Suzi McAffee's site. She's my sis-in-law.

Anyway...I'm a single mom...so your post caught my eye and I just want to say I GET IT!!! I have an 8 and a 4 year old. And yes, sometimes it is harder than anything I've done in my life.

I share the consistant inconsistancy thing with the ex as well...along with some of his divine alcoholic issues. *sigh*

Anyway...not all hope is lost. This stuff won't kill you and it definitely makes you stronger. I was lucky enought to participate in a Single Mom Coaching Program this summer with Honoree Corpron. She is using our stories to write a book about how to survive it all.

I'm the one in the group photo on the far left. Blue dress in the first shot and jeans/patterned sleeveless top on the second shot.

Oh Chels, for what it's worth, Jessica and I, or my mom and I, are constantly saying how amazing you are. If your blog is any indication, making something glorious out of a difficult situation. You are my hero. And feel free to send that 4 year old down here anytime. He can hang with my 5 going on 15 year-old and they can discuss how their moms don't know anything while playing Lightsaber Duels on the Wii.

Chelsea, don't know if you even remember me but I've been blurking here for awhile. I just have to say motherhood suits you. Every picture you've posted of yourself you look beautiful. And might I add, you made really gorgeous kids. Most kids are cute, but your kids are absolutely beautiful.
